Penn State completes a perfect weekend with a 51-0 win over the Maryland Terrapins

Nittany Lions black consecutive Big Ten foes

By Massimo Buonagurio

The Penn State Nittany Lions traveled to the University of Maryland, where they defeated the Terrapins 51-0 after back-to-back duals on back-to-back days. The Nittany Lions accumulated bonus points in all ten matches with three falls, five tech falls and two major decisions.

Multiple ranked matchups took place in College Park, with big matches at 133, 149, and 197 that had Maryland and Penn State fans on their feet.

Here are some key takeaways from Penn State’s match against Maryland:

1. From Down Seven to Scoring 31

Penn State’s Shayne Van Ness had a top ten matchup against Maryland’s Carter Young, where he got taken down and brought straight to his back and he got locked into a cradle. After going down 7-1, Van Ness put on an offensive show, rallying to victory.

The Nittany Lion scored nine takedowns with five in the second period and four in the third period to win against the ranked Terrapin and end the match early by tech fall 31-15. Absolutely incredible.
