Penn State football interim head coach Terry M. Smith addressed the media on Wednesday evening ahead of a crucial home tilt against No. 2 Indiana this weekend.
1. Adjusting to Head Coaching Life in Happy Valley
West Shore Home Field at Beaver Stadium has been home for Smith for a long time, playing for the blue and white as a wide receiver from 1988 to 1991 and holding an assistant spot on the coaching staff since 2014. This Saturday, it’s Smith’s first home game as the head coach. Smith told reporters he “just learned” that part of this new role is staying at the team hotel on Friday, for instance. He also noted that another point of adjustment is hosting the weekly interviews, whereas he would only talk to reporters “twice a season” as an assistant.
