Switching Fields: Frankee Flesher's Story
Penn State's Flesher makes transition from soccer to softball
Junior student-athlete Frankee Flesher made a drastic U-turn in her athletic career. After the difficult decision of medical retirement from soccer, Flesher had an opportunity like no other - a tryout with the Penn State softball team.
Around 2% of high school athletes play at the Division-I level. Flesher now has that honor with two sports under her belt. She grew up playing soccer and softball, striving to be the best at each one. Playing competitively at each sport growing up bolstered her athleticism and mindset.
"I am so grateful to have grown up playing both soccer and softball because it taught me so much and provided me with a community of awesome people that I still get to call family,” said Flesher. “I eventually was pressured to make a decision on what sport I wanted to pursue once college athletics came into the equation. I had entered a season of my life where I had found a new profound love for the game of soccer, which ultimately led to my decision to step away from softball.”
