Baseball looks to reroute three straight years of Husker heartbreak
Does History Go Another Way This Weekend In Lincoln?
It’s been three years in a row now that the Nebraska Cornhuskers have ended the Nittany Lions’ postseason hopes, each seemingly hurting worse than the last. One solidified a new beginning, another brought optimism while another cut a record-breaking year short.
Let’s start in 2023 when Penn State was smack dab in the middle of a rough eight-game trip following a 16-3 loss to Omaha in seven innings. It was the penultimate weekend of the regular season as Big Ten Tournament hopes hung in the balance for the blue and white.
The series opener on Friday, May 12 started out slow until the middle innings picked up steam when the Cornhuskers combined for 13 runs from the fifth to the seventh. Nebraska would finish with a 19-5 victory and pushed Penn State further away from conference tournament contention.
The next day was a bit closer, but the Nittany Lions fell yet again thanks in large part to the Cornhuskers controlling the pace early en route to a 5-2 decision.
