Baseball Earns Historic Commitment From Japanese Star Genei Sato

On March 24, the Penn State wrestling program earned the commitment of 2024 world wrestling champion and Japanese 61-kilogram Masanosuke Ono. On July 10, Canadian phenom Gavin McKenna committed to the men’s ice hockey program.
Now, on December 22, Japanese right-handed pitcher Genei Sato has become the latest international superstar addition in Happy Valley, committing to the baseball program starting in 2027.
Prowess On The International Stage
Sato fanned six batters in 4.1 innings this past summer while on the Japanese National Team participating in the 45th Japan-USA Collegiate Baseball Championship Series.
He faced top-tier USA players such as Drew Burress of Georgia Tech and 2025 D1Baseball Player of the Year in Roch Cholowsky of UCLA.
